Free PDF to Excel Converter is powerful software that can convert practically any PDF document into an Excel document without either Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft Excel needing to be present.

Free PDF to Excel Converter is freeware. That means that you can use it as much as you want whenever you want without spending a dime. This program has a single focus: convert any PDF document into an Excel document or another Excel-readable format. That’s a compliment. The program does what it sets out to do very well and never gets bogged down in a bunch of extras that you don’t need.

Free PDF to Excel Converter opens any PDF document. It doesn’t care what program created it or what the last program was to edit it. It’s also not particular about what PDF objects are contained inside. It’s worth noting that some objects may simply not be convertible in this context, but it won’t balk at them. Applications like Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader, and Microsoft Excel can be installed, but they don’t have to be in order for Free PDF to Excel Converter to do its job.

This program can manage documents of all sizes as well. Whether your PDF has one page or hundreds, it will convert fine. Overall size isn’t really a factor as well. Of course, a PDF that’s a gigabyte in size will take longer to process than one that’s only a few megabytes. By default, this app converts each PDF page in a document into its own sheet within a new Excel workbook.

The UI features a list box. You can add one PDF document to it or dozens. That means there’s built-in support for batching. Set hundreds to convert and leave it unattended. It does lack some batching options you may like to have. If you need distinct conversion behaviors, you’ll have to run multiple distinct batches. There’s also no scheduling of batches or the ability to shut the computer down.

The good news is that the conversion process is quite fast and even most beefy batches can be converted while you wait. The process is also very accurate, and you should be please at how well content transfers to the other format. Since Excel supports so many different types of objects, there’s practically nothing that a PDF can contain that it can’t. There are exceptions but not many. Even unrecognized objects can be encapsulated within a container usually.

The user interface is outdated and quite basic. However, you can probably overlook this since it is intuitive and handles drag and drop and the like just fine. There’s also a rudimentary command line implementation if you simply want to skip the UI altogether. It’s probably worth noting that Internet-based converters are fairly common now. If you need to convert just one document, that may be the better route. However, this is still very handy for batches.
